Halal, Certified: The Journey Behind the Logo
The JAKIM logo is the most trusted symbol in Malaysian food. For a lot of households it is not a nice-to-have. It is the reason a product gets a place on the table at all.
So what does it actually take to put that logo on a bottle? The honest answer: a long process, and it starts long before the label is printed.

Certification Is a Process, Not a Stamp
Halal certification is not a sticker you order. It is an ongoing system. Every ingredient must come from an approved source, and every ingredient supplier must be able to prove it. The facility itself – the whole operation, from storage to filling – must meet the standards, and then be inspected to confirm it. Paperwork gets you an application. Inspection gets you the certification.
For Tanjong Sauce®, this shaped the recipe from the start. The eight ingredients are all named on the label – vinegar, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, ginger powder, nutmeg powder, sugar, salt – which means every one of them had to be vetted, documented, and traceable back to its source.

Why the Facility Matters
A recipe can be perfect on paper and wrong in practice. That is why certification looks at the place, not just the product. The production runs in controlled small batches in Simpang Ampat, Penang – a facility that also operates under MeSTI food safety standards, with the traceability that comes with GS1 barcoding on every bottle.
The combination is the point. JAKIM halal covers what goes in and how it is handled. MeSTI covers the food safety system around it. GS1 covers the trail. Three layers, one bottle.

Why It Matters From the First Bottle
Some brands treat certification as a milestone to reach after they grow. We treated it as the foundation, and the reasoning is simple: a sauce that asks to sit beside your family’s food should arrive with its papers already in order, not with a promise to sort it out later.
That is also what the label is really saying. Eight ingredients, nothing artificial, seven of them spices and seasoning, one of them the signature nutmeg Penang has grown for generations. JAKIM on the front. The recipe on the back. Nothing hidden in between.
The Test of the Logo
Certification gets the product on the table once. Taste is what keeps it there. The logo opens the door – and after that, the sauce has to do what a sauce is supposed to do: make the food better. That is the part we work on every batch.
