Ghee Hiang 170th Year Noodles — A 10-Min Penang Heritage Recipe with Tanjong Sauce®

This year, Penang celebrates a remarkable milestone: Ghee Hiang, the beloved biscuit and pastry brand, marks its 170th anniversary with a Malaysia Book of Records recognition. That is 170 years of craftsmanship, tradition, and flavour — right here on our island.

To honour this legacy, we created something special: a 10-minute noodle dish that brings two Penang icons together on one plate — Ghee Hiang-inspired sesame notes and the tangy-umami punch of Tanjong Sauce®.

The Recipe: Heritage Sesame Noodles with Tanjong Sauce®

Prep time: 5 minutes | Cook time: 5 minutes | Serves: 2

Ingredients

  • 200g dried wheat noodles or fresh wantan mee
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame paste or tahini
  • 1 tablespoon Tanjong Sauce®
  • 1 tablespoon light soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • To garnish: sliced cucumber, spring onions, toasted sesame seeds, crushed Ghee Hiang sesame biscuits (optional)

Method

  1. Cook the noodles according to packet instructions. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking. Set aside.
  2. Make the sauce. In a bowl, whisk together sesame paste, Tanjong Sauce®, soy sauce, sugar, minced garlic, and hot water until smooth and silky.
  3. Toss. Pour the sauce over the noodles and toss until every strand is coated. The Tanjong Sauce® adds a gentle heat with nutmeg warmth that cuts through the richness of sesame beautifully.
  4. Garnish and serve. Top with cucumber ribbons, spring onions, sesame seeds, and crumbled Ghee Hiang biscuits for a heritage crunch.
