Seven Questions People Ask Before Their First Bottle
Before anyone buys a bottle of something they have never tasted, they ask questions. Not the marketing questions. The practical ones. Is this safe for my family? Is it going to burn me? What do I actually eat it with?
Seven questions come up again and again. Here are the answers, plainly.

Is It Halal?
Yes. Tanjong Sauce® is JAKIM halal certified, produced in Penang by Malaya Essence Sdn Bhd under MeSTI food safety standards, in a controlled small-batch facility. Every ingredient is named on the label: vinegar, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, ginger powder, nutmeg powder, sugar, salt. No animal products, no alcohol, no mystery.
How Hot Is It?
Medium. The heat builds gently rather than attacking – a clean warmth that sits around the level of a serious table sauce, not a challenge sauce. The goal is flavour with a bite, not a fire drill. If you can handle a spicy mee goreng, you can handle this.

What Does Nutmeg Taste Like in a Sauce?
Warm, aromatic, and slightly sweet – the note you know from baked goods, arriving somewhere you never expected it. The nutmeg is the signature. It is what makes the sauce taste like Penang instead of like every other bottle on the shelf.
What Do I Eat It With?
Anything that is fried, grilled, or crispy – and anything that needs rescuing. We have tested it across both kitchens: ayam goreng, ikan bakar, nasi goreng, satay, fried noodles, and equally at home on a burger, fries, or roasted chicken. The acid cuts through fat and the heat wakes up plain food. Three drops, start there.

How Long Does It Last?
Unopened, 24 months. The vinegar base does the preserving – no artificial preservatives needed, because the recipe is acid enough to keep itself. Once opened, it behaves like any vinegar-based sauce: keep it sealed, keep it cool, and it stays right.
Why Is the Bottle Only 100ml?
Because a sauce this concentrated does not need a litre. 100ml is the size that finishes while it is still fresh, fits in a carry-on, and sits on a counter without taking over the kitchen. It is also a size built for gifting – a small, honest taste of Penang.
Is This Just a Chilli Sauce With a Fancy Name?
No. Chilli is an ingredient and a good one – but the recipe is built around nutmeg, the spice Penang has grown for generations. That is the difference you taste: not just heat, but warmth, aroma, and a finish that stays with you.
